B.C.A.A.S. General Meeting Minutes

November 14, 2002

The meeting was called to order by President Barry Shupp at 7:40 p.m. with 24 attendees. Treasurer Linda Sensenig reported a bank balance of $7200 with an additional $100 that was received for a program that Ron Kunkel had done. She is putting in another order for calendars. Ryan Hannahoe donated 2 DVD’s on the construction of the Subaru Telescope in Hawaii as door prizes for our anniversary banquet.

The starwatch at the Heritage Center was cancelled due to bad weather. Dave Brown had 30 – 35 people for his program on comets and asteroids at Nolde Forest, and he received a letter of appreciation from Nolde. Ron Kunkel stated that there were a lot of guests for the starwatch at Daniel Boone Homestead for the Boy Scouts. Even though it was cloudy, there were some holes and some viewing was accomplished. Ron, Barron and Barb attempted to catch the occultation of asteroid 431 Nephele, but it was cloudy. The Leonid Meteor Shower starts this weekend, with a possible storm of 2000 meteors per hour possible for the peak at 5:00 to 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 19. Ron stated that he will be going to Pulpit Rock and invited members to contact him if they wanted to go.

The next Board meeting will be November 21, at 7:30 p.m. at Paul Becker’s home. Our annual Christmas party will be December 12, and everyone is invited to bring a covered dish to share.

As the election of officers is scheduled for our December meeting, Barb Geigle reviewed the list of candidates: Ron Kunkel for President, Ryan Hannahoe for Vice President, Linda Sensenig for Treasurer, and Barb Geigle for Secretary. She asked for any nominations from the floor, and Dave Brown was nominated for Vice President. Anyone wishing to run should contact Barb.

It was mentioned that there will be a penumbral eclipse of the moon on Tuesday night, and Jupiter’s moons will be eclipsing each other for the next few months. A schedule is available at the Astronomy.com website, under mutual events.

Ryan Hannahoe presented an enjoyable program entitled "Astronomy in Hawaii", after which the meeting was adjourned at 8:55 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Barbara Geigle, Secretary
