B.C.A.A.S. MEETING MINUTES

June 14, 2007

Dave Brown called the meeting to order with 20 in attendance. We had an impromptu star watch at the Flying Field with several members. We will have another one this Saturday, June 16. Sky events to watch include: Moon will come close to Venus .6° on 6/18, Saturn and Regulus .4° on 6/19, Antares and Jupiter .5° on 6/28, Neptune 1.3° on 7/3 and Uranus 1.9° on 7/5. On 7/1 Venus and Saturn will be less than one degree apart.

Upcoming events:

July 11 through 15 – Mason Dixon Star Party

July 12 –BCAAS meeting, which is member’s night; Dave Brown will not be present – need someone to chair the meeting.

August 11 – Saturday – annual picnic at Dave Brown’s Deerfoot Farm (no meeting at the Museum this month) This is also the start of the Perseid meteor shower.

October 13 – The Lehigh Club is having their 50th anniversary banquet; the guest speaker will be David Levy.

Miscellaneous news:

Dave Brown, Keith Minnich, and Gene and Hannah Salvatore have volunteered to be trained to help with the Planetarium, but we haven’t heard back from the Museum to set up training.

Linda Sensenig reported a balance of $4,602.83. $5,000 has been placed in a CD. Linda also noted that she has a pair of binoculars for sale.

Barb noted that we will be receiving the next Night Sky Network toolkit in September, which will deal with exploring the Solar System.

Our speaker tonight was LVAAS member Chuck Kunesh with an in-depth look at finding extra-solar planets.
