B.C.A.A.S. BOARD MEETING MINUTES
January 26, 2006
The Board meeting was held at Arner’s Restaurant on Route 61. In attendance were Dave Brown, Ron Kunkel, Linda Sensenig, Melody Gardner, Gene Salvatore and Barb Geigle.
Tentative dates for this year’s public star watches were discussed. The following dates were selected, but must be confirmed with the parks first:
Kaercher Creek Park – Friday, May 5 with a rain date of June 3
Berks County Heritage Center – August 4 with an August 5 rain date
Nolde Forest Environmental Education Center – April 8 with viewing if weather permits
Blue Marsh Lake – September 29 with a rain date of September 30. They are also interested in a separate day program with solar observing.
We also discussed a possible overnight trip to Cherry Springs Park that Eleanor, from Nolde Forest, had suggested. Nolde would possibly provide transportation. We chose a date of April 22. Dave will send an email out to club members to see who might be interested in participating, and he will get in touch with Eleanor.
Dave suggested setting up telescope making and/or mirror grinding classes as we have the materials. We could possibly make telescopes to sell. Dave will send out an email to see if there is any interest.
Barb showed the draft of the club brochure she is working on. She needs some pictures of members with their scopes that include children. Ron noted that he has some pictures and will send them to her.
Linda suggested that we start giving a cash prize for the Science Fair. She noted that we always give a club membership as part of the prize package, but no one has ever used it.
