About Us
The Lackawanna Astronomical Society holds many free astronomy events throughout the region. We work closely with local State Parks and other organizations to generate interest in amateur astronomy in Northeastern PA. We also offer many public events from Keystone College’s Thomas G. Cupillari Observatory located in Dalton, PA.
The LAS has a 65 year presence in NEPA. During its history, the organization has participated in Scranton’s First Fridays, local community programs, Star Parties at State Parks, and Astronomy Day. Many of these programs continue today, with the LAS seeing more public interest and a growth in membership. LAS members also collaborate with Keystone College to generate interest in Public Nights held at the observatory.

Clear Sky Chart – This is a forecast for when we expect to have clear and dark skies to view astronomical objects. You can click on the chart above to find more information on how to read it.
Today’s Moon Phase – This website tells you the moon phase on a specific date. You can check out today’s moon phase or look at a monthly calendar.
Weather – This is the hourly weather forecast for Dalton, where the observatory is located. Check the temperature so that you can dress accordingly for a visit, or check to see if there is a possibility of precipitation.
