The Berks County Amatuer Astronomical Society (BCAAS) is a tax-exempt nonprofit corporation founded in 1973.
Our mission goals:
- To promote the science of astronomy by encouraging and coordinating the activities of our members.
- To forward professional research by contributing amateur resources wherever possible.
- To educate the public, and introduce to all the splendors of the sky.
Who should join?
Do you or your children have a yearning to learn more about the night sky or to look through a "real" telescope and see the splendors of the universe first hand? If so, you are encouraged to join. BCAAS is made up of people from all walks of life, and its members are anxious to share their love and knowledge of astronomy.
Meetings
The BCAAS meets on the second Thursday of each month. Meetings start at 7:30 P.M. and typically last 2 hours. They consist of a business portion followed by a program presented by club members or invited speakers. Meetings may be held either in the Reading Public Museum, or in the Planetarium. Feel free to drop by at one of our meetings, even if you are not a member.
Star Watches
Each month we try to plan a Star Watch at various observing sites to view the sky by telescope, binoculars, or naked eye. No equipment is necessary to attend. This represents one of the best ways to introduce you or your children to the subject of astronomy. Details will be provided here on the website for upcoming public Star Watches.
